Primulaceae family Stylogyne lateriflora (Swartz) Mez, Symb. Antill. 2 (3): 418-420. 1901. Syn.: Ardisia lateriflora Swartz. (1788) Stylogyne canaliculata (Loddiges) Mez, Pflanzenr.IV. 236(Heft 9): 268. 1902. Bas.: Ardisia canaliculata Loddiges (1826). See note below Zabwiko mawon Indigenous quite common shrub/tree of lower montane, montane, cloud montane rainforest and elfin shrublands. Guadeloupe, Marie Galante, Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Grenada, Trinidad. Leaves are normally large (25cm. long) but are much smaller at high altitude. There seems to be a single but variable taxon of Stylogyne which has terminal and axillary inflorescences. As S. caniculata is described as having terminal inflorescences and S. lateriflora as having axillary, and as the only other key difference given is in fruit size (which is variable anyway), I am not convinced that there are two taxons. |
