Native to Mauritius, Malesia, China, Australia.

Edible fruit.  Local medicinal uses

It can completely cover wet open areas and exclude native species; it is mildly invasive in man-made clearings.
Its relative Rubus ellipticus is in the "100 of the World's Worst Invasive Alien Species" list.
