The Mucuna bean, zyé bouwik, which is found on the beach, is roasted until black, pulverized, and put in rum to take for gas.  This bean is often polished and used as a good luck charm, worn around the neck or placed in the cash drawer.  It is believed to keep you from evil forces.

Note RG

There are two local Mucuna species, Mucuna urens and Mucuna sloanei which produce a seed like those found on the beaches. However most of the seeds found on the beach have drifted in and are a mixture of several species.
