Indigenous common trailing herb of swampy/muddy open spots.
St. Martin, St. Barthélemy, Montserrat, Guadeloupe, La Désirade, Marie Galante, Les Saintes, Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Grenada, Barbados, Greater Antilles, Mesoamerica, South America.
Very similar to the rarer Alternanthera sessilis, best distinguished by a general hairiness on new growth.
