Indigenous very common herb of open dry and moist areas.
Anguilla, St. Martin, St. Barthélemy, Antigua, Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Kitts, Redonda, Guadeloupe, La Désirade, Marie Galante, Les Saintes, Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, the Grenadines, Grenada, Barbados, Greater Antilles, North America, Mesoamerica, South America.
Leaves are eaten and occasionally sold but probably not cultivated.
Very similar to the rarer Amaranthus viridis  but more erect and more robust.
