West Indian endemic.
Quite rare tree of coastal deciduous seasonal forest.
Mature specimens almost extinct in the wild.
St. Barthélemy, Barbuda, Antigua, Guadeloupe, La Désirade, Marie Galante, Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia, Barbados, Greater Antilles (Puerto Rico), Virgin Islands, Tobago, Trinidad, Margarita Island.
Under threat by over-harvesting for brooms and by habitat loss.
Also a cultivated ornamental and planted by farmers.
