Indigenous very common vine of open and semi-open wet areas of all elevations. Montserrat, Guadeloupe, Marie Galante, Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Grenada, Greater Antilles, Trinidad, Mesoamerica, South America.
It is in the "100 of the World's Worst Invasive Alien Species" list.
Here it covers large areas of abandoned banana fields, covering saplings and shrubs; it is a good example of an indigenous invasive.
