Indigenous very common woody vine of deciduous seasonal forest and cliffs.
St. Martin, Barbuda, Antigua, Saba, St. Eustatius, Montserrat, Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, the Grenadines, Grenada, rest of West Indies, Mesoamerica, South America.  

Flowers in great profusion shortly after first rains.
There is a very similar species found in freshwater riverine swamps,  Dolichandra uncata.
