St. Martin, St. Barthélemy, Guadeloupe, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Greater Antilles (Hispaniola, Puerto Rico), Tobago, South America.
Spiny stems spread long distances along the ground. Leaves very large.
Very high-climbing.


In FLA called Dioscorea altissima Lamarck which is actually a synonym of Dioscorea cayenensis Lamarck.
