Heliconiaceae family

Heliconia wagneriana
, Fl. Bras. 3(3): 13-14.  1890.

Naturalized rare herb of very wet roadsides close to the forest.
Native to Mesoamerica and South America.
Also a cultivated ornamental.

It has the potential to spread into the rainforest and its planting around forestry trail starting points should be discouraged. Potentially invasive as it might effect native Heliconias and the birds that feed on them (apparently H. wagneriana nectar has a lower sugar content).
