West Indian endemic.
Quite common shrub of coastal savanna.
Anguilla, St. Martin, St. Barthélemy, Barbuda, Antigua, Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Kitts, Nevis, Montserrat, Guadeloupe, La Désirade, Marie Galante, Les Saintes, Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, the Grenadines, Grenada, Barbados, Virgin Islands.
In St. Lucia this species is usually not spiny. However a few specimens on Anse des Sables, Vieux Fort have spines.
