Plants of Saint Lucia

I studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge University.

The next 20 years were spent, occasionally in the UK, but mostly travelling and working as a science teacher in various parts of the world.

I settled in Saint Lucia twenty years ago and helped develop and run a small guest house. A few years after my arrival I started studying the plants of Saint Lucia. It was very frustrating to start with without resources and without anyone locally able to help me. However over the years, with outside help (see acknowledgments)  and with the support of the Forestry Department, I have come to  understand much better the large and varied flora of this small island.

The last 18 months I have been putting together this web site. The main aim is to help Saint Lucians learn something about their plants; hopefully it will also prove useful for our neighbouring small islands and in general to anyone who has an interest in plants.
